Our Story
Chacha comes from a small village in Gujarat, India. His first tea shop was a small roadside stall in Ahmedabad (the picture above) - with just a few utensils, tea packets and some milk. Though his was a roadside stall, Chacha differentiated it from others by serving chai in earthen pots, along with toast and biscuits. Guests were awestruck as they witnessed a rare tea seller speaking English. Over time, when other tea merchants in the neighbourhood became jealous of Chacha's success, they hired goons and forced him to close his tea shop. After many years of selling tea all around India, Chacha saved up enough money to fulfill his lifelong dream of coming to Canada - and the rest is history.
Chacha Chai Wala is unlike any other tea shop in Ottawa. We are more than just a place to stop by for your morning cup of tea (though you are welcome to do so); we are a place where you can sit down and enjoy that hand-made cup of tea. If you need to work, we offer a special seating space for you. If you need to rest, we offer a soft-seating area in front of a stone fire place that is ideal for your tired mind and body.
We're invested in our community and a proud part of the community we serve. Our partnerships with farmers and suppliers who care about where their foods come from are vital to who we are. Chacha Chai Wala has been a mainstay in the Ottawa community since 2018 and has been voted "Best Tea Shop" by our patrons in various publications over the years.
